the
African reserve in Sigean#Safari Day
The Sigean African Reserve is unlike any other zoo, with its wide-open spaces where animals can frolic and let off steam before the eyes of visitors, who can observe them on foot or by car. The landscapes are typical of the Languedoc-Roussillon region, with pine forests, marshes and garrigues, providing wildlife with a living environment close to their natural habitat.
Heavily frequented during the summer months, October is the perfect month for a leisurely visit to the reserve. Come and spend a superb safari day in this vast zoological park during your camping holiday in the Aude!
walking tour
of the Sigean reserve#Nature Sauvage
There are two ways to get around the Sigean African reserve: your car and your legs! You can start your walk any way you like. As you stroll along, you’ll come across a multitude of birds splashing about in the ponds: pink flamingos, pelicans, white storks and many other local species.
Thanks to several observation points, you’ll have the chance to spot a large number of mammals: giraffes, cheetahs, oryx, chimpanzees and many more. An area dedicated to reptiles, the reserve’s vivarium, may send shivers down your spine, with alligators and boas constrictors, as well as green iguanas and Florida tortoises, which generally arouse less apprehension.

By car, you’ll also have a front-row seat to rhinoceroses, Tibetan bears, zebras, ostriches and felines, including majestic lions. Obviously, the rules of the Highway Code will be a little different from those on an ordinary circuit, and priority on the left may apply to let a herd of buffalo pass. It’s a funny situation, but it’s actually quite commonplace at the Sigean reserve! It’s in this natural setting that you’ll discover the private life of these wild and protected animals.
Depending on the schedule, some species may be huddled in a corner for a little siesta (or to take shelter in the shade on hot days), but you can come back later in the day with your vehicle to get a better (re)look at some of the animals. Young and old alike will be delighted to get up close and personal with the various species that inhabit the reserve. There are a few common-sense rules to be observed in this green setting: keep windows closed, don’t feed the animals or use any other means of locomotion such as bicycles or motorcycles within the park.
